Abstract: We consider the Cauchy problems for electrodynamic equations related to two types of external impacts on the inhomogeneous medium. At first, it is a point source and, at second, a plane wave going from infinitely. We write down expansions of solutions for the both problems in a vicinity of the characteristic cone (for the case of point source) and the characteristic wedge (for the plane wave). The such expansions are widely used in the study of inverse problems for the Maxwell equations. We study questions of smoothness of these expansions.
