Abstract: The paper proposes a hybrid zonal RANS-LES model that allows using unmatched-grid fragments in RANS and LES computational domains. During RANS calculations, an SST turbulence model is used to determine the flow parameters. In addition, an original method is applied to connect unmatched-grid fragments. The method accounts for the features of solving the hydrodynamic equations modeling a viscous incompressible fluid flow at the adjacent boundaries of the grid’s unmatched fragments. At the second stage of the calculation, a method to generate velocity fluctuations at the inlet boundaries of a LES domain is applied that creates artificial turbulence and accounts for the unmatched grid between RANS and LES domains. The developed hybrid model was applied to simulate the thermallycompressible viscous fluid flow experimentally investigated in a Vattenfall T-junction. The simulation has demonstrated that in the RANS-LES interfaces enable for the model’s necessary accuracy when calculating averaged flow characteristics.
