Analysis is the technique of differentiation and integration. Differentiation discovers trends, and integration forecasts the future from trends. Calculus reduces forecast to numbers, which is scalarization in modern parlance. Some aspects of the latter will be revealed by extending the classical Stone--Weierstrass Approximation Theorem.
