Abstract:
The zero-point energy of nuclear vibrations in a bilayer sliding ferroelectric h-BN is estimated. Although it reduces the potential barrier between two crystalline states with opposite polarizations by almost a quarter, this is apparently not enough to explain the small experimental value of the electric field required to switch polarization in this material.
