Реферат: A mathematical model is used to illustrate that the influence of adsorbed species on the rate of an isothermal catalytic reaction may lead to sustained oscillations. This behavior may occur when increasing fractional surface coverage by a reactant causes a reduction in the reaction rate. Such a situation may occur, for example, when surface heterogeneity of the catalytic sites causes the activation energy of a rate constant to increase with surface coverage of the reactant. Criteria are presented for a-prior predictions of the kinetic and model parameters for which oscillatory behavior may or may not occur for a class of Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanisms. Numerical simulations are used to demonstrate the different types of periodic behavior predicted by the model.
